Redwood Education and Enterprise Centre (REEC) is part of Redwood Secondary Special School's 6th Form offer. REEC is based at the 'old Middleton CLC' building on the Middleton Technology Secondary School site.

REEC opened in September 2015 and aims to provide young people age 16 -19 with learning and / or physical disabilities the opportunity to develop employability and independence skills as they prepare for adulthood.

The 2 year Employability and Independence course offers students a wide range of vocational training, basic skills, personal development, life skills and work experience placements. It aims to prepare the students for a further 1 year placement on Redwood's Supported Internship programme based at Rochdale Infirmary. The students on the Supported Internship programme have the opportunity to work as 'real' employees, for 'real' employers, in the 'real' workplace while being supported by job coaches employed by Redwood School, to systematically gain both specific and transferable work skills that increase their chances of gaining paid or voluntary employment.

REEC is an exciting and exhilarating opportunity for students to develop academically personally and socially in a small, supportive environment.

Alongside the accredited outcomes all students are encouraged to become Independent Travellers where appropriate. We have 2 experienced Travel Facilitators based at REEC who work intensively with individuals to enable them to initially learn planned journeys e.g. from home to REEC and then widen their capabilities in terms of confidently travelling within their local area by foot, bus and tram. Independent Travel gives students much more independence, raises their self-esteem and makes them more employable.
