At Redwood we consider the benefits of Learning Outside the Classroom and educational visits as crucial to the social, personal and emotional development and growth of our learners. Being outside the classroom offers opportunities to build trust and relationships in different settings, enabling our learners to work towards E.H.C.P. targets, grow in confidence in the community and experience enrichment opportunities which they would otherwise not experience in their lives. Our experiences also prepare our young people for adulthood and link them to the wider community, as well as promoting more independence. These different environments also often encourage more physical activity.
Learning Outside the Classroom activities and educational visits are used as teaching and learning tools for the delivery of elements of Redwood’s mission statement. They are also used to embed and apply new skills learned in various elements of our Curriculum.
Learning Outside the Classroom activities and educational visits have clear and measurable aims which link to Redwood’s Mission Statement and Curriculum Intent. The impact also contributes to learner’s attainment and progress towards their individual EHCP outcomes.
