The Governors of Redwood School are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Evans as our new headteacher. Paul will take up his post on 15th April 2024, the beginning of the summer term.
Paul is an experienced headteacher, joining us from Southgate School in Huddersfield, where he has been in post for the last 7 years. Southgate is a special school for students with complex needs, and Paul is proud of the inclusive and nurturing culture embedded within the school that extends beyond the school gate. Having unconditional positive regard for all students is central to Paul's values and his approach. In addition, he has worked extensively to improve SEND provision and the SEND experience across Kirklees Local Authority.
His commitment to SEND has been longstanding, having previously been an SEN Teacher and then a Head of Faculty for Learning Support in two different mainstream secondary schools. During this time, he was awarded the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCo) with Distinction, and has since held senior leadership positions in two different special schools.
He describes the opportunity to come to Redwood at this point in his career as highly motivating and a real privilege. Paul is really looking forward to bringing his experience and expertise to the school and the wider community. He strongly believes in the value of building positive relationships based on honesty and trust, with a relentless focus on supporting each young person to achieve their aspirations and best possible future.
We wish Paul every success as he continues and extends the work of his predecessors in establishing Redwood as an exceptional school where every student is supported in achieving their best. We also wish to thank our acting headteacher, Jo Connor and her team for their excellent work in leading and managing the school since September.
